Hey look, I avoided all the gutters! And I hope you did too.
If you’ve no idea what I’m talking about, it’s fine. It’s not important. None of this is important. EXCEPT. What IS important is that it’s time for me to run down the list of what I have in mind to do in the space this year. Things are going to be a little different around here, and…um…that’s all I have for an intro. Hmm, maybe not the best way to start off with the first post of the year. But c’mon, cut me some slack…I’ve been busy! I know my writing hasn’t been up to snuff lately, but I want to get back into that groove! I miss you guys. I miss reading your blogs and being part of the community. I…I *sniff* I…
*sniff sob sniff*
Just…roll the bullet points, please.
Yesterday marked my five-year blogging anniversary. That’s quite something, huh? I know it is for me, because I don’t know that I ever intended for this blog to go on for so long. Not that five years is a long time in the grand scheme of history, but it’s long enough to warrant some kind of something. Which is what I’m doing here now…I guess?
In the past, I’ve marked these anniversaries in various ways, and this year I think I’d like to chat a bit about stats. Blog stats, that is. This isn’t a topic I’ve broached here before because it’s never been, in my mind, worth discussing. I’m not here for the stats. I’m here for me, and for you, and that’s all. But recently a friend asked about blogging, using WordPress, etc. I was more than happy to go on and on about all the good stuff blogging offers, until the question of statistics arose. Specifically, the question, “how many hits do you get a day?” Continue reading “I do it for the thirty who care”
So last Monday I announced the delay of my next game project. It’s a situation that made me less than thrilled, but life is not so kind, sometimes. That life, our lives, as we all know too well, can sometimes change on a dime, as mine did again just within the past week (all good, no bad), and it’s forced yet another decision pertaining to this here space on the Internet. As of today I’m moving to a bi-weekly posting schedule for the remainder of the year.
Boo. Hiss. I know. The the worst part about making the decision was that, as soon as I did, WordPress informed me that I had just gained a few new followers.
Thanks for that, good people. And, sorry.

- I don’t know how people sleep with the covers on or over their heads. Isn’t is suffocating? I can’t stand to have anything touching my face while I’m sleeping.
- I loathe that Buick commercial where one of the actors says “I’m what you call an ‘early adopter’.” STFU. Oh, I get the marketing ploy, but Buick has been around for over 100 years. So seriously, STFU.
- I’m pretty sure that I’m 100% addicted to iced coffee. Like, I used to just want it in the summer, but now I want it ALL THE TIME.
- I used to wear high heels, every day, and at work. At work that involved me being on my feet most of the day. I don’t know how I did that. I see young women now at my work walking around in sky-high heels, and I don’t know how they do it.
- The initials “BFG” will NEVER stand for the “Big Friendly Giant.” Don’t people think to Google these things before making such big choices?

If you’ve been following me here for any length of time, you’re likely aware that I’m kind of a stickler when it comes to this space. I like to make plans for the blog, and I like to follow through with them, almost, at times, to the point of breaking. Well, this month, things are breaking, um…have broken? Be toats broke? However you want to say it, it’s not a bad thing. In fact, it’s a very good thing for the real life me. You see, I was recently promoted at work, and I’m all kinds of thrilled and scared and uppity about it. Really though, it’s great! But it’s also, for the moment, very demanding. So I’ve had to place several things on the back burner, at least temporarily, and this blog is one of those things. Yes, it sucks balls, but I’m as serious as a heart attack about my career, so there. As such, I’m taking a sabbatical from new writing this month — there won’t be any new general ramblings, gaming posts, “Play or Pass” articles, or an iTunes diary.

Though I didn’t start this blog with the present in mind, it strikes me as a little odd that I’ve never taken a moment to review my own recent past in games. Is it time to fix that? I suppose so, especially since it’s already what I’ve got in mind as a writing topic. And also especially since, come any given year’s end, I usually feel quite deflated concerning games. I feel as though I didn’t play enough games, or enough of the games that I got to play, or that I’ll never get to all the games that I should. And this negativity seeps into a new year almost unheeded. So yeah, it’s time to turn that frown upside-down! Because honestly, despite any life/work issues, I didn’t do too bad last year gaming-wise.

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2015 annual report for this blog.
Here’s an excerpt:
The concert hall at the Sydney Opera House holds 2,700 people. This blog was viewed about 18,000 times in 2015. If it were a concert at Sydney Opera House, it would take about 7 sold-out performances for that many people to see it.

As I’ve kinda, sorta done in the past, I’m taking a moment here at the tail end of 2015 to put into writing my plans for this blog as we careen in 2016. And by “plans” I mean a series of somewhat disjointed thoughts that should probably be more joined at this point but ah well fuck it because Christmas is in two days and I’ll be lucky if I remember my name by New Year’s.
In other words, yay for headers and bullet points!
