Today is my blog’s sixth birthday. Happy birthday…to…it? To me? I’m never exactly sure with these things because sometime it rally has felt like this blog has had a mind of its own.
But…yeah…the big ol’ numero six. Pretty special, right? Think of all the cool things you get to do when you turn six! Like, go to school…
…dude, kids these day’s start school at, like 3.
Oh, well, how about learn to ride a bike?
I mean like a grown-up bike, with training wheels. Not like a tricycle or Big Wheels.
Maybe you have a point. But only maybe.

Earlier this month, a blurb with this intriguing title (which was prefaced by “Asking the Big Questions #001”) appeared in my WordPress reader. Being the immensely curious type that I am, as well as someone who has seen a lot come and go in my years of blogging, I simply had to click. Not only that, the post was on The Well-Red Mage, a fantastic gaming/life site that I’ve followed and enjoyed for some time. I was rewarded with, well…a call to remember and share and answer a question:
“What have you learned since you started blogging?”
What an easy question, right? I mean, at first I was all like, “Oh yeah, I’ve learned TONS since I started up these writing shenanigans!”
And then I was like, “Lemme start counting! One…I’ve learned…um…well…that things…uh…”
Yeah. Maybe not so easy.

If you’ve been following me here for awhile, you know that I’m a big ol’ sucker when it comes to blog awards. Chain letter comparisons aside, there’s no denying that they are kind of fun. And who doesn’t enjoy a little peer-to-peer recognition every now and then? All this is to say that the very kind Mr. Steiner of Falcon Game Reviews recently sent the Mystery Blogger Award my way, and I’m more than pleased to say thank you. By the way, he’s no blogging slouch, so do check out/follow his incredible site that’s full of all sorts of gaming goodness!
Now, we all know how these things go, so let’s get on with the rules. Or, at least, some of them.

As I attempt to reshape the voice of my blog, opening up a little more has become one of my goals. So when I saw this “getting to know me” challenge over on The Indecisive Eejit (great blog, lovely blogger – do follow!), I took it as the perfect opportunity to work towards that goal. I think I’m supposed to tag people or something, but that seems awfully irrelevant. If you want to take the questionnaire, then by all means, go for it! I’m not your mother.

Hey look, I avoided all the gutters! And I hope you did too.
If you’ve no idea what I’m talking about, it’s fine. It’s not important. None of this is important. EXCEPT. What IS important is that it’s time for me to run down the list of what I have in mind to do in the space this year. Things are going to be a little different around here, and…um…that’s all I have for an intro. Hmm, maybe not the best way to start off with the first post of the year. But c’mon, cut me some slack…I’ve been busy! I know my writing hasn’t been up to snuff lately, but I want to get back into that groove! I miss you guys. I miss reading your blogs and being part of the community. I…I *sniff* I…
*sniff sob sniff*
Just…roll the bullet points, please.
Yesterday marked my five-year blogging anniversary. That’s quite something, huh? I know it is for me, because I don’t know that I ever intended for this blog to go on for so long. Not that five years is a long time in the grand scheme of history, but it’s long enough to warrant some kind of something. Which is what I’m doing here now…I guess?
In the past, I’ve marked these anniversaries in various ways, and this year I think I’d like to chat a bit about stats. Blog stats, that is. This isn’t a topic I’ve broached here before because it’s never been, in my mind, worth discussing. I’m not here for the stats. I’m here for me, and for you, and that’s all. But recently a friend asked about blogging, using WordPress, etc. I was more than happy to go on and on about all the good stuff blogging offers, until the question of statistics arose. Specifically, the question, “how many hits do you get a day?” Continue reading “I do it for the thirty who care”
So last Monday I announced the delay of my next game project. It’s a situation that made me less than thrilled, but life is not so kind, sometimes. That life, our lives, as we all know too well, can sometimes change on a dime, as mine did again just within the past week (all good, no bad), and it’s forced yet another decision pertaining to this here space on the Internet. As of today I’m moving to a bi-weekly posting schedule for the remainder of the year.
Boo. Hiss. I know. The the worst part about making the decision was that, as soon as I did, WordPress informed me that I had just gained a few new followers.
Thanks for that, good people. And, sorry.
